A young woman is in serious condition after taking a harrowing 25-foot plunge onto the jagged rocks below the popular Sunset Cliffs, authorities said.

The victim, in her 20's, fell on Saturday around 2 p.m. off the coast of Ocean Beach, San Diego, per a report by the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. The SDFD, via X, applauded the swift efforts of the joint rescue operation that swiftly brought the woman to safety. Her current condition at a local hospital remains undisclosed.

Lifeguards and firefighters worked in tandem, pulling off a coordinated cliffside rescue that culminated with the woman being airlifted from the scene. "This was a fast, efficient, and safe rescue because of teamwork between firefighters, lifeguards, and the (helicopter) crew," SDFD stated in an operation debrief.

The sheer cliffs, a notorious spot for similar incidents in the past, were the scene of today's risky operation. SDFD helicopter 3 took point in the rescue, delivering the injured woman to the care of hospital personnel, details the Times of San Diego. The exact circumstances of her fall have not been made public as of this reporting.
