Woodbury’s Central Park is about to get a major facelift, and residents should brace themselves for the upcoming construction and temporary closures. Known for drawing a crowd that spans generations, the park will close its doors starting April 1, as reported by the City of Woodbury's official announcement. From the energetic tumbles at the Lookout Ridge indoor playground to the congenial card games among the elderly, the park has been a beloved community hub for over two decades.
Ringing in the new, the renovations planned for Central Park are not just a fresh coat of paint. The entire area, including the YMCA and Stonecrest Senior Living walkways, will be inaccessible starting from the end of this month. However, Washington County’s R.H. Stafford Library and the YMCA, living through the rumble and dust of construction, will keep their doors open to the public. The library will welcome guests through a new temporary northwestern entrance, although parking could be a gamble, as outlined by the city's plans.
The renovation intends to cater to modern needs and aesthetics. Expect to see spruced-up public spaces, more art displays, and 'yes-Virginia-there-is' increased parking. A shiny new multi-purpose space is in the blueprint, accompanied by additional dedicated areas with a senior focus.
Designed with feedback directly from those who use it most, the Lookout Ridge indoor playground will see some of the most innovative changes. The upgrade will introduce new equipment, party rooms, and features voted for by the community, such as a moonwalk climber and multi-lane slides. Parents with young ones can breathe a sigh of relief – there will be a separate toddler area, making sure the playground caters equally to all age groups. Plus, with construction wrapping up by fall 2025, families won't have to wait too long to enjoy the renovated space, the city reassures.
Community patience, while their beloved park undergoes its metamorphosis, is greatly encouraged. In the meantime, Woodbury denizens can keep up with the renovation progress and peek at what’s to come by visiting the project’s dedicated webpage. With all the effort being poured into these renovations, Central Park is teeing up to continue being an essential fixture of Woodbury's social and recreational landscape for years to come.
