Boston's Downtown Crossing is about to get a taste of the Wild West. Taco John's, a Mexican quick-service chain that began its journey as a humble taco stand in Cheyenne, WY, in 1969, is set to open a new location on Summer Street. The site, previously occupied by a hair salon, will be the latest addition to the over 350 Taco John's outlets across the nation.
Renowned for their tacos, nachos, quesadillas, burritos, and the signature Potato Olés—a spiced fried potato nugget to be paired with various sauce options—Taco John's brings its menu to Bostonians looking for bold flavors. These offerings, consistent with their nearly 400 restaurants in 23 states, have made the chain a substantial player in the Mexican quick-service industry. The company's history states, "Ever since that very first taco stand, Taco John’s® has been all about bringing the flavor." The announcement of the new location was made through a post from @mat.tl on the Bluesky site, detailing 75 Summer Street, Boston, MA, 02110, as the address for the upcoming Taco John's.
Further cementing its cultural impact, Taco John's fiercely claims the origin of "Taco Tuesday," a concept that underscores the chain's dedication to all things taco. As per their company history found on their official website, "Ever hear of Taco Tuesday? We started it! That’s how seriously we take tacos." Such dedication appears to resonate broadly, as reflected in the brand's steady growth throughout the Midwest and beyond, eventually adding dine-in services and drive-thru options to accommodate its fans' needs.
This new Summer Street hub in Boston will be joining other Massachusetts towns like Lawrence and Leominster to bring more of Taco John's unique flavors to New England. According to the local blog, Taco John's also had its eye on the unique dynamic of the city's historical Downtown Crossing, deciding that it was high time residents got to indulge in their signature quick bites like the Meat and Potato Burritos and holiday treats such as Nachos Navidad®.
While Taco John's continues to expand its footprint, their philosophy remains rooted in "uncompromising standards of food quality, dedication to using real ingredients, signature bold flavors, and [a] commitment to Olé The Day." With a new locale slated to open in Downtown Boston, the chain is ready to serve up its founder John's legacy one taco at a time, extending its reach further eastwards and continuing its nearly 55-year-old tradition of flavor-packed fast food.
