
Chaos erupted near Garfield High School in Seattle yesterday when shots rang out at a busy bus stop, leaving a young girl wounded in a brazen daylight shooting, police said.
The gunfire broke out around 2:40 p.m. on March 13, on the 400 block of 23rd Avenue, cops were called to the location after an SUV unleashed a volley of bullets while traveling southbound on 23rd Avenue before making a left on East Jefferson Street, Seattle Police Department's Blotter reports.
A female juvenile was tragically caught in the crossfire, hit in the right leg, according to police. First responders gave immediate first aid at the scene, and the victim was swiftly transported to Harborview Medical Center with injuries deemed non-life-threatening. As investigators combed the scene for evidence, Garfield High School, among other nearby schools, was placed into a shelter-in-place status as a precautionary measure. The location was deemed secure following police action.
While the shooting spurred a significant police presence and community concern, and no other injuries have been reported. The Seattle Police have yet to provide a description of the suspect or suspects, or to identify a motive behind the egregious act of violence, as the investigation remains ongoing.
