The fire reportedly broke out in the kitchen of one unit, though its cause is still under investigation, and quickly spread to 10 others. The rapid response of approximately 100 firefighters was instrumental in extinguishing the fire by 3 p.m., says supervising fire dispatcher Eddie Pickett. Ten families, equating to about 30 people, now find themselves displaced, grappling with the aftermath of the inferno, Pickett stated in his briefing to The Times.
While eight of the individuals rushed to the hospital suffered minor injuries, others faced more serious breathing issues, and smoke inhalation was the predominant injury for those hospitalized, Red Cross officials are stepping in to aid the affected families with temporary housing solutions setting in motion a plan to address their immediate needs in the wake of the fire, details were shared by CBS News Los Angeles. As investigations continue and families begin the tough process of rebuilding, the community is reminded of the fragile nature of security when pitted against the unpredictable might of fire.
