Chaos erupted in the stillness of night in Leander, Texas, as two men armed with guns allegedly stole a car and sparked a high-speed chase that put local deputies on a frantic tail. According to a CBS Austin report, the theft occurred around 3 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Baker Lane, triggering a pursuit along US 183 that ended with the suspects evading capture.
After the victim's desperate 911 call, Williamson County sheriff's deputies quickly located the stolen vehicle, only to lose it and later discover the wreck in the wood line near US 183 and FM 2243. The Williamson County Sheriff's Office stressed, in a Facebook post, the absence of danger to the public, despite the ongoing manhunt for the two men, one possibly of Hispanic descent, who had fled into the woods.
Surveillance footage captured the harrowing crash that ensued when the vehicle careened off the road and into obscurity. Ditched in the underbrush, the wreckage was a mute testament to the suspects' desperate bid for freedom. While a third occupant of the car was detained and questioned, the whereabouts of the two men remained shrouded in mystery as the sheriff's office deployed K9s in a fruitless search through the thicket.
The law enforcement authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. "Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 512-943-1300," reads the statement from the sheriff’s office. Meanwhile, as the investigation continues, the two suspects last seen disappearing into a labyrinth of shadow and bramble, are still at large, their identities cloaked from the light of justice.
