The North Texas art scene is getting a colorful boost thanks to Art Vibe Garland, a juried art show spotlighting the creations of local talent. Kicking off the festivities, a reception is planned for May 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Granville Arts Center, where art aficionados can rub elbows with no less than 52 artists curated for this vibrant showcase, as per the City of Garland.
In an exhibition that's as diverse as it is dynamic, names such as Charlotte Alexander and Kasey Jones will grace the scene, while stars of the show, the Jurors Choice awardees – marked with an asterisk next to their names like Jim Johnson and Paula Lawson – bask in their well-deserved spotlight. "Love Wins" by Rachel Schwarz, hailed as the Best of Show, promises to be a draw for those enamored by the contemporary art narrative - or perhaps just a damn good piece of artwork.
The immersive experience doesn't end at the reception. Art Vibe 2023 boasts a multi-venue gala running from May 5 to May 25. Visitors are encouraged to embark on an artistic journey through eight different locations, including Branding Iron at Firewheel and the South Garland Library, ensuring an all-encompassing encounter with the breadth of North Texas artistry.
Not only does the exhibition put artists in the limelight, but it also addresses the nitty-gritty with a nod to practicality. The Garland Cultural Arts Commission, in tandem with the City of Garland, is taking measures to secure the artworks while they're under their watchful care. However, the onus is on the artists to ensure their masterpieces are insured while out of their hands, a small print detail that can't be glazed over in bold creative endeavors.
Furthermore, artists have signed off on allowing their work to be used across various mediums, from websites to newsletters, in efforts to promote the event. This agreement is also a tacit reminder of each artist's originality and copyright claims—a testament to their creative integrity and dedication to their craft.
