Travelers and employees at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport are bracing for some disruptions starting next Monday as the MARTA Airport Station shuts down for a major facelift. As reported by Clayton County's official website, the closure, set to span six weeks from April 8 through May 19, will see the transit hub undergo extensive renovations, including the installation of new floor tiles and preparations for a new canopy structure.
With the station out of commission, MARTA is rolling out a shuttle system to ensure that the airport remains accessible. Commuters will need to simply travel to College Park Station and then take a brief shuttle ride to reach the airport's North Terminal Lower Level. Despite the inconvenience, MARTA officials promise that the shuttle will to be operating nearly round-the-clock, from 4 a.m. to 2 a.m., to accommodate the schedules of travelers and airport employees alike.
For those taking off, the journey begins at College Park Station, from where travelers will then exit the train and follow the signs for the shuttle, which is conveniently located in the bus loop. According to Clayton County's announcement, shuttles will drop passengers right at the doors LN1 and LN2 of the North Terminal Lower Level. This spot is a stone's throw away from the employee entrance, ensuring a smooth transition for those who work at the airport.
The airport's arrivals aren't left out either. Incoming passengers and homebound employees can follow signs to Ground Transportation and North Baggage Claim. The shuttle pick-up point is situated between doors LN1 and LN2, making it easy to link back up with the MARTA system for the final leg of their journey. While modifications to mass transit can often be a source of anxiety, MARTA's commitment to maintaining a consistent shuttle service aims to alleviate some of the stress associated with the station's six-week downtime.
