The Austin Police Department is currently probing a homicide that took place at a northwest Austin apartment complex Monday evening. The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on the 11100 block of Research Boulevard, according to KVUE.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officials found one man dead at the scene and discovered numerous bullet casings spreading across a sizable crime scene, as per KVUE. Another man was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. APD has begun interviewing witnesses to unpack details surrounding the fatal encounter, and the investigation initiated at an apartment complex, police said.
Additional details were scant, but APD Public Information Officer Wesley Belcher clarified in an interview with KXAN that the shootout started at the complex and "then wound up on the service road." The identities of those involved or potential motives have yet to be disclosed to the public.
