A near seven-year homicide case has finally seen a break, with 27-year-old Daniel Acevedo arrested and facing murder charges in the 2017 shooting of Anna Meza in San Jacinto. Acevedo was taken into custody this past Friday following a targeted traffic stop by members of the Major Crimes Unit.

Deemed the suspect in a crime that had languished on the docket of unresolved cases, Acevedo's apprehension brought to close a pursuit that officials implied would not abate. According to a statement published by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, "the District Attorney reviewed the case and filed murder charges against Acevedo" on Monday, April 15, 2024.

The initial investigation traces back to November 12, 2017, when deputies responded to reports of a shooting at a residence on North Dillon Ave. There they found 31-year-old Meza fatally wounded. Despite the swift arrival of aid and attempts to save her, Meza's life irretrievably slipped away under the pall of her injuries.

As stated by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, investigators from both the San Jacinto Police Department and the Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit had taken up the gauntlet of justice promptly at the scene.
