In an upcoming volunteer drive slated for April 30, locals are encouraged to become familiar faces to the newcomers in their own community. The event, organized by the city, promises to be a simple but effective mingling rite. Volunteers will receive welcome bags which they will then hand-deliver to new residents, laying the groundwork for a more integrated and neighborly Brooklyn Park.
Teaming up with the local government, volunteers who show up at the City Hall Council Chambers between 6-7 pm are primed to make some fresh introductions. After a brief presentation, they will be packing bags which the new residents will hope contains a warm spirit of community more than anything else. A map and snacks are provided as a small token of appreciation for their time and as fuel for the journey. According to the bulletin posted on the official City of Brooklyn Park website, "New and returning volunteers are welcome! We’ll try to match you with a route in your own neighborhood, or close to it."
