Buckeye Police Identify Homeless Man Found in Landfill, Seek Clues to His Last Days in PhoenixSource: Facebook/Buckeye AZ Police Department

Buckeye police have put a name to the man whose remains were found in a landfill earlier this month, seeking help to piece together the final chapter of his life. The body, discovered at the Southwest Regional Landfill on April 10, has been identified by officials as that of 60-year-old Shawn Woodruff, homeless and known to locals as "Short Dog."

The grim discovery amidst the refuse, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix, has now led to an investigation into the origin of the body as well as the cause of death. The landfill, off of MC 85, gathers waste from numerous transfer stations throughout the Phoenix valley, muddying an origin of Woodruff's final journey to the site. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is tasked with unraveling the mystery surrounding how Woodruff died.

Woodruff, who lacked a permanent place to call home, was last seen hanging around the vicinity of State Route 51 and Thomas Road in Phoenix. His body did not immediately reveal signs as to how or why he died, complicating efforts by authorities to determine the timeline of events that led to his death. Police are now reaching out to the community for any information regarding Woodruff's last days.

As recounted by azfamily.com, Buckeye Police are urging anyone with insights into Woodruff's whereabouts or interactions before his death to come forward. Those with information are encouraged to contact the Buckeye Police tip line at (623) 349-6411, or submit a tip through the Buckeye city website.
