In a dramatic rescue operation, the California Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate Air Operations team successfully airlifted an injured hiker from the rugged terrain below the Palisades Mountains. The rescue, which occurred earlier this week, was executed with precision and expertise, highlighting the critical collaboration between local fire departments and law enforcement air support.
The hiker, who was discovered nearly four miles from the nearest trailhead, had sustained a broken ankle. In a statement obtained by the California Highway Patrol Golden Gate Air Operations, they detailed how their helicopter, H-30, was dispatched alongside a member of the Calistoga Firefighters to render aid. "H-30 inserted a Calistoga Fire HRT member who packaged the patient in a hot seat device," the statement explained. The patient was then hoisted a dramatic 120 feet from the trail and delivered to a waiting ambulance.
