Collin County Master Gardeners Begin Rehoming Plants for Allen Courtyard Gardens ExpansionSource: City of Allen, Texas

Allen's favorite green oasis is getting a temporary trim back as the Courtyard Gardens at Allen brace for an expansion and renovation. In what looks like an elaborate plant protection program, the Collin County Master Gardeners have begun the process of rehoming the gardens' beloved flora, with expectations of empty beds come summer.

Since 2015, visitors have enjoyed the vibrant displays and tranquil scenery the gardens offered, an effort made possible through a community partnership including Collin County Master Gardeners, Texas A&M AgriLife, Puckett's Nursery, and the City of Allen's Community Services and Parks and Recreation Departments. The move to uproot is one steeped with care—plants are being entrusted to gardeners who will nourish them using organic, sustainable Earth-Kind practices.

According to the City of Allen, "Our plants didn't leave their beds and run away from home! To help ensure our plants are well looked after during our upcoming expansion and renovation, the Collin County Master Gardeners have started rehoming them." A rebirth is expected, with the gardens anticipated to resurrect in full bloom by mid-2025.

For those missing the natural aesthetic, the Master Gardeners have not left Allen residents high and dry. Nature enthusiasts can still indulge in the sight of thriving plants at the other gardens maintained by the Collin County Master Gardeners. These are located at the Gardens at the Allen Heritage Village, a stone's throw from the Allen Senior Recreation Center.
