Construction Vehicle Strikes Bridge in Bastrop County, Disrupting SH 21 and US 290 TrafficSource: Facebook/Bastrop County Emergency Services District No. 2

Traffic in Bastrop County has been thrown for a loop after a construction vehicle clobbered an overpass, leading to significant disruptions on Wednesday. Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is on the ball, assessing the damage after the SH 21 bridge over US 290 got decked by the vehicle. TxDOT crews are inspecting the bridge to figure out the extent of the damage. As a result, the eastbound lanes of US 290 are closed, as well as the SH 21 bridge, hitting locals with delays, as reported by KXAN.

Caught in a snarl, drivers are grappling with the shutdown of both U.S. Highway 290 and State Highway 21 near the Paige area that left the bridge bad shape. "The SH 21 bridge over US 290 in Paige was stuck this afternoon. TxDOT crews will inspect the bridge. In the meantime, eastbound lanes of US 290 are closed as is the SH 21 bridge," a TxDOT spokesperson told KXAN in a statement.

Adding insult to injury, the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management has confirmed the highways are closed in both directions around the accident scene, leaving no stone unturned in causing travel disruptions, as detailed by KVUE.

Fortunately, despite the chaos, no injuries have been reported. The latest scoop from Bastrop County Emergency Services District No. 2 is that westbound 290 was lucky enough to be reopened around 7 p.m. However, eastbound 290 at Texas 21 remains closed until further notice, with traffic being herded to the feeder road. As for the Texas 21 overpass, it's slated to be reopened by TxDOT, but on a limited basis only.
