Decatur, Georgia, has emerged as the peach state's prime spot for prospective movers, hitting the top of the list for those looking to pitch their tents in the southern state, according to a recent FOX 5 Atlanta report. Move Buddha, the savvy tech company that studies moving trends, tossed Decatur the crown in Georgia, and even ranked it a remarkable No. 5 nationwide.
There's a draw towards smaller urban areas, Move Buddha shared, and Decatur fits the bill with its reasonably priced homes that sit below the U.S. average, prompting a tipping balance in which the trickle of those leaving is dwarfed by an incoming tide with 2.39 folks setting roots in Decatur for every one that says goodbye. Interest excitement has surged, with data from July 2023 through March 2024 showing the city as a relocation beacon, and the latest Census pegging its population at roughly 25,000 citizens as mirrored in a WSB-TV article.
The national title for most sought-after destination went to The Villages in sunny Florida, with Move Buddha describing the location as a "racehorse outpacing every other city in the country for growth," as the baby boomer generation contemplates retirement and sets their sights on warmer climes.
Trailing behind sunny Florida's retiree paradise, Asheville, North Carolina, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, made their mark ahead of Decatur, but it's Georgia's gem that is turning heads in the South with its promise of affordability and charm to those in pursuit of a place to call home yet some other cities like Billings, Montana managed to snag a spot above Georgia's favorite in a list that's got folks talking about where the grass might just be greener.
