Denton's own power company, Denton Municipal Electric (DME), has just been recognized with the big leagues' accolade, as it snaps up the Diamond Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3)® award from the American Public Power Association (APPA), putting the local utility on the map for its sterling provision of electric service.

Standing out in reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement, DME didn't just get by, it hit a perfect score of 100 out of 100, making it clear that the city’s utility team is not messing around when it comes to good service, according to the City of Denton, Texas. Tony Puente, the General Manager of DME, said in a statement, “This recognition shines a light on our dedicated team. We're proud to serve the Denton community, not only by keeping power reliable and safe but by committing to 100% renewable energy sources.”

Now, if you're thinking this is a common occurrence, think again—among the more than 250 public utilities gunning for the APPA's respect, a meager 112 have managed to land the Diamond status which DME now holds—showing it's not some run-of-the-mill achievement, but a major league win for the power players in Denton.

DME's climb to diamond-studded glory didn't happen overnight, the company won Gold in 2014 and then Platinum in 2017 and 2021, proving that this latest nod isn't a stroke of luck but a story of a team that’s consistently laying down the groundwork for excellence in their field, and for the people they power day in and day out.
