Chaos ensued on the I-75 in Bartow County Monday morning when a high-speed police chase ended in tragedy. The pursuit began after Calhoun Police responded to a reported stolen vehicle at a RaceTrac gas station around 5:45 a.m. Eventually, the suspect's desperate flight resulted in multiple crashes and the highway's shutdown, according to Atlanta News First. The Georgia State Patrol stated the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle.

The chase, which saw speeds soar past 90 mph, ended when the stolen white Chevrolet Silverado swerved into a patrol car and flipped over, also striking a Buick SUV. The driver of the Buick was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. As per reports from Atlanta News First, a secondary accident involving a Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Genesis G70 resulted in another fatality and non-life-threatening injuries.

Travelers on the section of I-75 faced extreme delays due to the accident investigation, with all northbound lanes remaining blocked for hours. The Georgia Department of Transportation advised using alternate routes to avoid the area, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta. Commuters were directed to highway 41 as an alternative passage through the afflicted region.

Names of the deceased have not been released, pending notification of the relatives. The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the multiple collisions that stemmed from this failed attempt to flee justice. According to both sources, the fatalities included the unidentified suspect and 34-year-old Michael Stout, identified by the Bartow County Medical Examiner’s office. Stout was returning to Ohio from a family visit in Stone Mountain when the crashes ended his journey.
