The Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) was on its toes in 2023, answering a staggering 45,765 calls ranging from death investigations to child safety seat inspections, according to a report published by the department. EPPD's busy year included responding to 62 death investigations, indicating persistent wrestling with the finality that comes unobserved, and zero fatal vehicle crashes, marking a year without the tragic scenes that frequently stain our roads.
The statistics reveal that the department had its hands full with 285 person-in-crisis calls, showing the community's throbbing heartache when grappling with mental health struggles, and 84 domestic assault calls, which serve as a stark reminder of the conflicts that unfold behind closed doors. There were 281 DWI arrests made, demonstrating EPPD's commitment to keeping drunk drivers off the streets. 88 suicide attempt/threat calls were logged, indicating the silent battles many faces and the crucial role the EPPD plays in intervening during such dire moments.
According to the EPPD Blog, the department's proactive efforts included 13,090 traffic stops, designed to ensure safety on the thoroughfares that web the community together. The EPPD also showed its lighter side, with an unexpected six apiary registrations, buzzing into the realm of beekeeping oversight, and engaged in 415 disturb the peace calls, addressing the clamor that disrupts the day-to-day serenity.
Other duties that shaped the department's year involved 1,298 animal control calls, where officers were called to situations often fraught with unpredictability and danger. Ensuring the safety of the youngest in the community, the department conducted 75 child safety seat inspections and addressed 101 school bus stop arm violations. These measures highlighted the department's dedication to not only enforcing the law but also fostering a safe environment for children. "In 2023, EPPD responded to 45,765 calls," the department notes.
