A former Flint man, Tyrone Anthony Jones, 53, has entered a guilty plea to multiple charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor relative, legal officials reported. The Genesee County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that Jones committed the assaults in the early 2000s when the victim, a youngster, was living with him and his wife. These disturbing events led to the girl's pregnancy, culminating in childbirth at the tender age of 13.
After the assaults, Jones relocated to Scottsboro, Alabama, while the victim and her child moved to an undisclosed state for a fresh start. The perpetrator's comeuppance came when the victim filed a formal police complaint in September of last year. In a statement obtained by The Detroit News, Prosecutor David Leyton praised the survivor for "showing tremendous strength and courage for coming forward."
As reported by CBS News Detroit, Leyton also remarked, "The wheels of justice may turn slowly but they never stop turning and today, justice was served with the conviction of Tyrone Anthony Jones." In Michigan, there is no statute of limitations for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which has allowed for the late prosecution of these crimes.
Jones' guilty plea to 31 counts of the grave offense was captured by news outlets, marking a significant acknowledgment of his wrongdoing. His sentencing, set for May 6, will be overseen by the 67th District Court of Genesee County. According to FOX 2 Detroit, Jones' attorney, Michael Ewing, has not offered any comment on the case.
