Four individuals have been indicted in a grim episode unfolding in Knoxville, with charges stemming from the death of 22-year-old woman Danishka Sibaja Mejia, who was found lifeless in a South Knoxville residence on the morning of April 5. The Knoxville Police Department disclosed the indictments in a recent briefing, where Police Chief Paul Noel described the scene as "truly a heinous crime," according to a report from WBIR.
The primary suspect, Latawyne Osborne, 39, alongside two others, Edward Wilson, 31, and Marquis Ellis, 20, face a slew of grave charges including first-degree murder and especially aggravated kidnapping, with intent for the state to push for heightened punishments, detailed a statement from KPD spokesperson Scott Erland to WATE, Osborne's mother Angela Greenberg, 59, is charged with tampering with evidence and accessory after the fact, marking her complicity in the aftermath of the tragic outcome that befell Mejia. The depth of the perverse violation is magnified by the fact that Mejia had previously reported a sexual assault against Osborne only days before her death.
Mejia's exact cause of death remains a mystery, with investigators reporting that despite the prevalence of shootings at the crime scene, her injuries were not consistent with gunshots; autopsies are impending to shed light on this particular angle. Two others were discovered in the home, wounded by gunfire but luckily alive, while Osborne, already associated with the assault charge, turned up at the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound of his own, as reported by WVLT.
All suspects are currently in custody: Wilson was apprehended on an unrelated warrant, Ellis was taken in for probation violation, and Greenburg's arrest came shortly thereafter.
