The Garland Municipal Library has once again proven its mettle among Texas libraries, snagging the prestigious Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award. The award, which marks the library’s 19th consecutive year of recognition, spotlights the institution for its stellar contributions to community service and consistent excellence in various programming arenas, according to an announcement by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association, as per the City of Garland.
Outshining most, Garland's library stood tall among 545 public libraries throughout the Lone Star State, with only 84 libraries managing to meet the high standards set by the association. The award factors in several key service areas, from aiding the unemployed and underemployed to spearheading initiatives in digital inclusion. Among the highlights of Garland's offerings are computer skill workshops, diverse cultural programs, and year-round educational opportunities.
Garland's library has effectively become a local beacon for literacy support services and has also implemented innovative marketing strategies to reach a broader audience, the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association noted, further underscoring the value the library brings to its community. Moreover, engaging summer reading programs are also part of the library's winning formula for maintaining a strong connection with readers of all ages.
Above all, the library prides itself on the constant honing of staff skills through ongoing training initiatives. These efforts ensure that staff members are well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of Garland’s diverse community, rendering the library not just a repository of books, but a vibrant and living hub of learning and connection.
