The Georgia Department of Transportation is finally switching up the traffic game at a notorious intersection in Fayetteville. Motorists tired of the stop-and-go dance at Highway 54 and Gingercake Road can look forward to new beats as GDOT announced they're rolling out improvements to tackle the heavy traffic and accident rates.
Workers on site will be hustling to swap out the old string pole lights with mast arms. They're also set to finetune the signal lights' timing to get vehicles moving smoother and safer. "The project will take roughly three months to complete," according to a statement obtained by Fayetteville’s official website. Lane closures will be more of a rarity than a regular thing, aimed to keep disruptions to drivers to a minimum.
GDOT officials are banking on these changes to cut down the number of fender-benders that have become all too common at this crossroads. "This will also help reduce accidents at the intersection," the statement from the website explained. The authorities have their fingers crossed that the new signal operation will be the fix everyone's been waiting for—less honking, less braking, and less hassle overall.
