Harris County law enforcement finally put cuffs on a man alleged to be behind a brazen string of high-end jewelry heists. Marcelo Majeed Hernandez was nabbed after deputies pieced together a trail of shattered display cases and vanished valuables, Precinct 4's official Facebook page reports.
The saga began on October 13, 2023, when deputies arrived at David Yurman Jewelry, only to find a wrecking ball of a break-in. Faced with a door crushed under the might of a sledgehammer, they discovered over 200 pieces of jewelry, worth a cool $380,000, missing. Fast forward to April 5, 2024, and a similar scene unfolds at Helzberg Diamond at the Houston Premium Outlets—this time with $170,000 in jewelry spirited away, according to officials.
Investigators pored over evidence and, on April 11, laid hands on Majeed, believed to have orchestrated the heists. Most of the jewelry has been recovered as deputies continue their hunt for a few final pieces. Majeed's arrest was a significant score for the community, signaling the end of a nearly half-a-million-dollar crime spree that had rattled local high-end retailers.
"Marcelo Majeed Hernandez was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail where he was charged with First Degree Felony Theft. At this time his bond and court information have not been set." a statement by Constable Mark Herman.
