Houston's tech-savvy crime fighters took a bite out of car theft after the swift arrest of a man driving hot wheels, thanks to a high-tech tracking system. On April 2, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s office responded to a FLOCK system alert of a stolen vehicle in the 15100 block of Kuykendahl Road. The alert system that got the wheels of justice turning is designed to track vehicles reported as stolen.
The constable's deputies didn't waste any time, spotting the suspect vehicle and pulling it over without a hitch. Behind the wheel was Dylan Coleman, who found himself quickly handcuffed and headed for a much less luxurious ride to the county jail. In a statement released on Facebook, Constable Mark Herman's office detailed the arrest, saying, "Dylan Coleman was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle."
The bond for the alleged car thief was set at a cool $1,000.00. It's the price Coleman must now muster to step back onto Houston streets, as decreed by the 178th District Court. The constable's office did not skimp on the details and made sure everyone knew through their social media that justice had been swift for the stolen ride.
While the vehicle’s owner can rest easier knowing their property is recovered, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the ever-constant threat of vehicle theft. Community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, relying on technology and the eyes of the law to keep their possessions safe from the hands of opportunists like the unfortunate Mr. Coleman.
