A blaze erupted in a Houston home on the 6700 block of Eastwood St., causing significant damage, though no injuries were reported. The fire was called in at 3:55 p.m. on April 14, with firefighters arriving swiftly at the scene, the Houston Fire Department reported.

Upon their arrival, they found smoke billowing from a single-story house. Fire crews launched an offensive attack, working vigorously to quell the flames that had taken hold in the attic space. The estimated damage was tagged at $15,000, whereas, property worth approximately $17,400 was saved from destruction, according to the official report.

The cause of the fire is believed to be unintentional. Initial investigations suggest it started from a barbeque pit or logs nearby. In order to ensure the fire was completely extinguished, and considering the attic's structural composition with wood shingles beneath newer ones, firefighters used an extensive amount of water, noted the fire department.

Notably, the fire required a sizable response from the Houston Fire Department. 39 personnel took part in controlling the situation, including members from Stations 7, 26, 46, 25, 33, 35, and 40, who worked together to prevent the spread of the fire and minimize property loss, the report added.

The community in The Greater OST / South Union area was left unscathed, as no injuries were reported during the incident. The quick response time of the firefighters, arriving just two minutes after the dispatch, potentially avoided what could have been a more harrowing event for the residents and the neighborhood at large.
