Houston Man Charged With Murder After Police Uncover Buried Body of WomanSource: City of Houston

A Houston man has been nabbed and slapped with charges in the killing of a woman whose body was dug up last week, police said on Monday. Derek Fischer, 31, faces murder and tampering with evidence charges after the corpse of Jennifer Ramirez, 45, was found buried in an impromptu grave in the 11000 block of Fuqua Street, as officials disclosed.

According to the City of Houston news release, Fischer's charges were filed in the 209th State District Court. His mugshot has been disseminated together with the grim update. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences confirmed that Ramirez's death was the result of a gunshot wound.

Detectives J. Jorsch and D. Lunceford from the HPD Homicide Division, initially without witnesses or suspects, unraveled the case on the basis of further investigation, witness statements, and gathered evidence that pointed at Fischer as the perpetrator. This led to the Harris County District Attorney's Office pressing charges.

Fischer was finally caught by the HPD Northbelt Patrol Division officers with an assist from the Harris County Sheriff's Office, after a tip-off about his location last Saturday.
