Houston authorities have charged 50-year-old Deedward Jefferson in a fatal stabbing that took place last month in the parking lot of a local car wash. The Houston Police Department (HPD) identified the victim as 29-year-old John Johnson, who was found with a stab wound around 10:15 p.m. on March 25 at 9425 Harwin Drive, as reported on the City of Houston news website. HPD responded to the scene after a stabbing call and upon arrival, a witness reported seeing an unknown suspect, now identified as Jefferson, stab Johnson and then flee. HPD has enlisted the public's help in to locating Jefferson, who remains at-large.

According to further details by HPD, included in the city's news release, the witness's account was pivotal in identifying Jefferson as the suspect. A day before the charge was made public, on April 4, Jefferson was formally charged with murder in the 178th State District Court. The HPD Homicide Division, led by Sergeants C. Lafour, M. Brady, M. Casso along with Detective S. Overstreet, are actively investigating to capture Jefferson.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded swiftly to the incident but, despite their efforts, pronounced Johnson deceased on the scene. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later confirming his identity.

The police are urging anyone with information about Jefferson's whereabouts or the incident to immediately contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600. Alternatively, they can choose to remain anonymous and possibly help to swiftly bring justice, by sharing any tips with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, as detailed in a Hoodline report. The investigation is ongoing and the authorities hope the public will assist in closing the case.
