Houston Police Intensify Hunt for Suspect and 'Person of Interest' After Child Injured in Daylight ShootingSource: Houston Police Department

Houston police have ramped up their search for a suspect and a 'person of interest' following a brazen daylight shooting that injured a young boy, 7, in the 7900 block of Corporate Drive last Sunday afternoon. Images captured from surveillance cameras showing the getaway car, a gray Toyota Avalon with distinctive damage, and a potential witness wearing pink shoes, were released in an attempt to garner public assistance.

The vehicle, seen fleeing the scene, has damage to the front left side and back passenger side. According to a news release from the City of Houston, the person of interest is a black female. In the chaos, a stray bullet struck the boy, who was on a sidewalk, victim of a violent encounter not meant for him.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in stable condition. HPD Major Assaults and Family Violence Division Detectives O. Tapia and Q. Nguyen, who responded to the initial shooting call, are heading the investigation. Eyewitness accounts suggest the shooter, potentially a black male with locks, was targeting someone in a blue truck when the child was inadvertently shot.

Detectives are now keen on tracing the identity of the person of interest, who they believe may have crucial information about the shooter. The Houston police are calling on anyone with details about the suspect's vehicle, the person wearing pink shoes, or the incident, to reach out to the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division or to pass on information anonymously to Crime Stoppers. Houstonians are hoping that these images will lead to a break in the case, and bring the perpetrator to justice.
