Tragedy struck yesterday at a Houston mall, where authorities are currently piecing together the grim details of an alleged murder-suicide that left two dead. The incident took place at an apartment within 2417 Jamestown Mall just after midnight, as confirmed by the Houston Police Department.
Through a report obtained from the City of Houston's official news outlet, the victims, a 34-year-old man and woman, are yet to be formally identified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The deceased, assumed to be in a common-law marriage, were found by concerned friends and family, who sought a welfare check after not hearing from the couple since approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 31.
Officers dispatched to the scene discovered the couple unresponsive with gunshot wounds. "Family and friends of the couple who resided in the apartment told officers they made entry into the apartment after, they had not heard from the couple since about 1 a.m. on Sunday (March 31)," detailed HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Lopez and Detective N. Sharp in the initial briefing.
Paramedics summoned to the apartment pronounced both individuals deceased at the scene. The early findings from the investigation suggest a chilling sequence— the male first shot the woman and then took his own life. With respect to the unfolding investigation, any further detail remains sparse as the HPD continues its thorough investigation into the motives and the precise circumstances surrounding the deaths.
