A man was fatally shot by a security guard yesterday evening at a Houston apartment complex on Faulkner Street, local authorities said. The incident, which unfolded just before 11 p.m. at 3826 Faulkner Street, has been turned over to the Harris County grand jury for investigation.
Details on the deceased man's identity have not yet been released as they are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The security guard involved in the shooting was unharmed during the altercation, as per the City of Houston's official news release.
Officers from the Houston Police Department were called to the scene after reports of the shooting were made. They discovered a male with multiple gunshot wounds inside an apartment, where he was subsequently pronounced dead by responding paramedics from the Houston Fire Department.
An initial investigation led by HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Meek and Detective M. Perez suggested that the security officer tried to mediate a disturbance between a male and another person on the premises. When the male, who apparently appeared to be impaired, became agitated, he retreated to his apartment and emerged with a weapon. It was then, when the male pointed his gun at the security guard, that the guard—fearing for his own life—fired his service weapon, shooting the male. This narrative was outlined in the city's announcement.
The aftermath of the shooting sees the Harris County District Attorney’s Office getting involved, making the decision to refer the case to a grand jury.
