Houston commuters are bracing for a series of closures and delays affecting the city's roads and transport services this weekend. According to live updates from The Houston Chronicle, major Houston-area roadways are undergoing construction that will temporarily shut down key arteries such as the 610 Loop, Interstate 10, and the Interstate 45.

Beginning Friday at 10:00 p.m. running through Sunday at 9:00 p.m., the Sam Houston Tollway Ship Channel Bridge southbound lanes will close, Click2Houston reports. The closure, prepping for future work, will then shift to an extended four-month duration for the bridge's right southbound lane starting Sunday at 9:00 p.m. As part of the pavement repairs, there will be a substantial closure along the 610 North Loop from Hardy Toll Rd to Airline Dr starting Friday at 9:00 p.m. until Sunday at 5:00 a.m., which is expected to cause delays.

In addition to the bridge and loop closures, METRORail services are set to be disrupted. METRO will offer a modified service on the Purple line from April 20-21st, reported by Click2Houston. Commuters can expect bus shuttles every 12 minutes connecting the Palm Center Transit Center to Eado / Stadium station.

Drivers should also note that from Friday at 9 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m., lane closures are set on I-10 heading westbound starting at Spur 330/Decker Drive to Monmouth Drive, with one lane remaining open, which Click2Houston revealed earlier this week. Travelers planning to fly can also rejoice at the new airport in Tulum, Mexico, as direct flights are available out of Houston on United Airlines since the airport's launch in 2023.

Motorists are encouraged to stay informed about the latest traffic updates and consider alternate routes where available to navigate the myriad of roadwork and closures impacting Houston's traffic flow.
