A young woman, aged 23, met a tragic end late Monday night when she was found shot to death at an apartment complex in Meyerland, Houston. As reported by FOX 26 Houston, the unnamed victim was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds at the 8900 block of Braesmont. In a grim twist, a child believed to be connected to the victim was found unharmed inside the nearby apartment.
The Houston Police Department arrived at the scene shortly after 10 p.m. and found the woman's body in the doorway of an apartment that was shut and locked, indicating she may have been attempting to find a sanctuary before succumbing to her injuries. Houston police are currently at a loss for the motive behind this heinous act, and the investigation is ongoing.
The apartment's resident returned during the police's initial investigation and informed officers that her child and the babysitter were supposed to be inside her home. Upon entry, granted by the frantic mother, law enforcement discovered an untouched child, no more than three years of age, according to authorities. Despite the violent events that occurred just outside, there seemed to be no signs of a struggle within the confines of the apartment itself.
Detectives from the HPD's Homicide Unit have since been called to probe deeper into the circumstances that left a child without a mother and a community reeling from another act of senseless violence. The identity of the deceased has not yet been revealed as the inquiry unfolds, casting a shadow of mystery and grief over Braesmont Drive.
