An inmate was found dead in his cell at the Main Jail Facility in San Jose, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office reported. The 27-year-old man was discovered unresponsive early on the morning of April 6th, and despite resuscitation efforts by deputies and medical staff, was pronounced dead shortly after the fire department and emergency services arrived on the scene. The incident is currently under investigation, but initial findings suggest no foul play was involved in the individual's death.

The deceased, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was locked up alone when he was found at approximately 4:13 A.M. According to a press release by the Sheriff's Office, "Deputies and medical staff immediately performed life saving measures on the individual by administering CPR until medical personnel arrived." Emergency responders from the San Jose Fire Department pronounced him dead by 4:40 A.M., following their arrival at 4:27 A.M. The man had been booked into the county jail last fall on multiple charges, including attempted robbery, attempted burglary, and vandalism.

A collaborative investigation has been triggered amongst the Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney's Office, and the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office, as per standard procedure for an in-custody death. Investigators from the Sheriff's Office were at the scene to begin the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

The Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
