A family dispute turned fatal in Harris County when Mei Huang Wolfe, 48, was charged with the murder of her nephew-in-law following an altercation. The incident, which occurred yesterday evening in the Katy area, involved a heated argument over the nephew's prolonged stay, culminating in tragedy.
According to KHOU 11, authorities were summoned to the scene at around 9:20 p.m. on Tesino River Circle. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez revealed that the victim, recently returned from travels and a college graduate, found himself embroiled in conflict regarding his welcome in the Wolfe household.
In a disturbing reveal by Sheriff Gonzalez, speaking to KHOU 11, the situation escalated quickly – "She retrieved a pistol and something happened during the altercation and she fired a shot, striking the nephew." Mei Huang Wolfe now faces murder charges, and while Judge Wolfe, her husband and justice of the peace for Harris County Precinct 5 Place 2, was present during the incident, the man died at the scene.
ABC13 explains that there were four adults in the residence when the fatal shot was fired. After the fight unfolded, Wolfe secured a pistol and discharged the firearm resulting in her nephew's immediate death. While not released immediately by investigators, the identification of the victim has been withheld.
Addressing the rise in family-related violence, Sheriff Gonzalez highlighted a troubling trend: "We've seen a lot of family and intimate partner violence happening recently...sometimes it extends beyond that to other family members," he told ABC13. The community is now left mourning the loss of a young man in his early 20s, with law enforcement extending their condolences to all affected.
For those who might hold information regarding the incident, the Harris County Sheriff's Office has urged them to come forth, providing contact details for their homicide division at 713-274-9100 and Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
