Knoxville Man Accused of Attempted Murder Surrenders to PoliceSource: Knoxville Police Department

A Knoxville man sought for the brutal attempted murder of a 31-year-old woman, has handed himself over to police. Jevess Craigmire, the suspect who allegedly shot and severely beat the woman at her apartment, is now facing a litany of charges including attempted first-degree murder.

After the vicious confrontation which took place early Saturday morning, the woman was found with multiple gunshot wounds and significant trauma to her head and face. According to an incident report obtained by WVLT News, Craigmire ambushed her outside her Dandridge Avenue residence, firing shots as she fell to the ground, and continued the assault with his firearm.

Craigmire, who is 27, reportedly fled the scene with the victim's purse and car after the attack. Turning himself to law enforcement on Monday afternoon at the Public Safety Complex, he was charged with a series of felonies, including especially aggravated robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm, Knoxville Police Department officials relayed.

The victim was taken to a local hospital following the attack, where she is currently reported to be in stable condition. Upon finding the victim, who had been shot "at least one time," details emerged that the suspect may have continued to shoot at her while she was already wounded on the ground, but missed, as per a statement obtained by WIVK.

Prior to his surrender, the East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers had been seeking information on Craigmire's whereabouts. The Knoxville Police Department has also announced that further investigation is underway by their Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit detectives, WATE reports. With Craigmire now in custody, further proceedings in this disturbing case are anticipated.
