Knoxville locals can put their winter coats away but might want to keep a light jacket on hand, according to the latest forecasts. The National Weather Service in Morristown has ruled out any major atmospheric tantrums for the week but speaks of possible frosty conditions tonight. "Additional frost can be expected to develop tonight and there is some potential for freezing conditions mainly across the north," NWS Morristown stated in their early morning report.
Despite a chilly start with temperatures bottoming out at 39°F this morning, a sunny sky with a high near 61 is predicted for the rest of the day. Winds remain light and northeastern but are expected to make a switch, claiming the south in the afternoon, which could drive Sunday temperatures up to a comfortable 71 degrees.
As the new week rolls in, Knoxville residents might want to keep an umbrella within arm's reach. There's a "30 percent chance of showers after 3am" on Sunday night, and that probability ping-pongs throughout the week as the weather takes a wetter turn. "A chance of showers before 9pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3am," is the forecast for Monday night as outlined by the NWS, with some showers possibly escalating to thunderstorms by Tuesday morning.
Looking further ahead, Tuesday's wet weather could set the stage for several rounds of showers and thunderstorms, climaxing to an 80 percent chance on Thursday. Knoxville’s weather pendulum swings from breezy high 60s to cloudy potential downpours, ensuring that April lives up to its reputation for delivering showers that promise May flowers. Meanwhile, the NWS's "spotter activation is not needed at this time," ensuring residents that, while inconvenient, the incoming storms aren’t expected to turn severe.
