
Flames engulfed a Burger King in Historic South-Central Los Angeles before Los Angeles Fire Department crews swiftly doused the inferno. The blaze broke out at 1:18 PM on April 7th at 2511 S. San Pedro St., where heavy smoke billowed from the one-story commercial building, according to a LAFD alert.
The fast-food restaurant was in full defensive mode as first responders fought to contain the fire. "One-story commercial (Burger King) with heavy smoke showing. Offensive mode," the statement provided by the fire department detailed the initial scene. It took 36 firefighters a mere 16 minutes to subdue the flames and prevent them from spreading, as noted in a follow-up alert.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and the LAFD confirmed that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Following the successful extinguishment, firefighters remained on the scene to ensure the site was secure and to prevent any potential flare-ups.
Firefighting teams utilized attack hose lines and implemented vertical ventilation techniques, allowing them to swiftly knockdown the fire. The LA County Health Department has been notified following the incident. Staff were also on the ground to assist with the investigation and to oversee the clean-up of the affected location. As the site smolders in the aftermath, the community looks on, awaiting answers about what sparked the destructive blaze that temporarily clouded their neighborhood.
