
In a grim series of events, the Los Angeles Police Department is probing two ruthless animal cruelty incidents that saw dogs shot in cold blood on the city streets. The separate shootings, as detailed in a recent LAPD news release, occurred within two weeks and have sparked an active investigation by Newton Area detectives.

The first incident unfolded on the night of March 29, 2024, when patrol officers from the Newton Area were dispatched following reports of gunfire at around 11:00 p.m. near 23rd Street and Santa Fe Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a dog riddled with bullets, the poor creature clinging to life amidst evidence of the despicable act. In a turn of fortune, the officers managed to rush the beleaguered dog to a local vet, who miraculously saved the animal's life.
Tragedy struck again in the early hours of April 7, 2024, this time a dog wasn't as lucky. Responding to yet another shooting alert around 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of 52nd Street and Avalon Boulevard, Newton Area patrol officers discovered another dog, wounded by a shooter's hand, the animal was not able to survive the cruel onslaught.
Amidst this spree of senseless violence, authorities have not yet identified a suspect. The LAPD earnestly calls on those with any information to step forward, appealing to the public's conscience.
