Flames erupted in a Winnetka apartment complex yesterday afternoon, but Los Angeles firefighters managed to douse the blaze before it spread further. According to a report by the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire broke out around 2:00 PM in a unit on the second floor of a three-story garden-style building located at 20251 W Sherman Way.
Firefighters charged into offensive mode amid the smoke and flames. Their rapid response was crucial, and in just 19 minutes, the team of 34 had the fire extinguished. The LAFD's swift action confined the fire, preventing it from creeping vertically or horizontally to neighboring units, according to a subsequent announcement from the department.
Despite the prompt extinguishment of the fire, the apartment directly above sustained smoke damage, while the unit below suffered water damage due to fire suppression efforts. One individual was affected by minor smoke inhalation but declined hospital transport. There were no reported firefighter injuries during the incident.
The LAFD hasn't yet released the cause of the fire. The damage to the structure and the resident's belongings has not been estimated so far.
