Los Angeles firefighters swung into action Sunday evening, swiftly tackling a garage fire before it could wreak havoc on surrounding structures in Vermont Vista, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire erupted in a detached garage at 801 W 106th Street near Vermont Avenue, with first responders from the LAFD arriving on the scene after the incident was reported at approximately 8:48 PM; the first arriving firefighter reported detached garage was fully involved with exposures. LAFD personnel were seen diving into an offensive operation mode, as per the incident alert.
Through a swift and vigorous attack, using handlines to douse the non-converted garage flames, the blaze was declared knocked down within 21 minutes, a rapid response that helped avoid a potentially larger disaster.
According to the LAFD, "firefighters were offensive mode utilizing fire attack handlines to extinguish the fire in the non-converted garage" and "fire companies are checking exposure for fire extension," the firefighting force, numbering 34, managed to prevent both horizontal and vertical spread of fire, with knockdown acquired in a rapid 21 minutes – as stated in the LAFD knockdown announcement.
Post-knockdown efforts remained crucial, as crews continued to stay on the scene to complete salvage and overhaul operations, working diligently to ensure the complete extinguishment of the fire, making certain that the threat was thoroughly quelled. Council District 8, the area affected by the fire, will see personnel from the LAFD remaining on site to carry out these vital tasks.
