In a town hall meeting aired by KNX News, Bass detailed her strategies which, according to her, led to a dip in the city's homicides and violent crimes last year – as reported by the Mayor's Office.
"My number one job as Mayor is to keep Angelenos safe," Bass told the town crowd, and she is backed by Katherine Hennigan Ohanesian of the Women Against Gun Violence board who is pushing for permanent violence prevention measures in LA she's loving the Mayor's commitment to violence prevention, she's not alone in her praise, Maria de Lourdes Caracoza of Alma Family Services hailed the Mayor's inclusive vision for public safety and her work boosting the Gang Reduction Youth Development Prevention program.
The love didn't stop there – Tina Padilla of Community Warriors 4 Peace tipped her hat to Bass for ensuring Violence Intervention Workers earn a fair, livable wage, which she claims helps them keep the streets safer. Meanwhile, big players in the religious community, represented by Bishop Craig A. Worsham from South LA, noted improved crime stats under Bass but stressed there's more work to do, yoking together as a community to uplift LA.
Nathan Arias, the CEO of Soledad Enrichment Action, sang Bass' praises for her attentive ear across LA's diverse districts, and the city's push for social equity and wellness, Kevin “Twin” Orange, a figure in Advocates for Peace and Urban Unity, joined the chorus, recognizing Mayor Bass' attention to mental health issues and the unhoused as a critical step in strengthening public safety Karla Ahmanson, a philanthropist, thanked Bass for her commitments that are expected to beef up the local economy and community safety efforts, making LA a top spot for families.
Even the business bigwigs threw their weight behind the Mayor, with Stuart Waldman from VICA emphasizing the critical role of the business community in achieving a shared public safety vision, clearly, the consensus among LA's diverse voices is that Bass' efforts to unite government, business, and community sectors are paying off, fostering a safer and more family-friendly city.
