As per LAPD PIO, the man was reversing his car when he struck a concrete pillar. Upon exiting the vehicle to examine the damage, the car, reportedly still in reverse, began to roll backward. The man's attempt to regain control of the car turned fatal as it accelerated, pinning him between the pillar and the driver-side door.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the dire scene, promptly transporting the victim to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, as reported by the LAPD PIO. Medical staff at the hospital pronounced him deceased, a loss resonating beyond the confines of the parking structure to the broader expanse of Los Angeles's streets that harbor more stories of vehicular heartbreak and tragedy.
Investigating the exact cause of the crash is still underway, with uncertainties as to whether a mechanical failure or the influence of alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the incident, the LAPD News Release reports.
