Los Angeles Secures Nearly $900 Million Federal Boost for Transportation Ahead of 2028 OlympicsSource: LA, Mayor Karen Bass

Los Angeles is gearing up for the 2028 Olympics with a massive infusion of federal cash to revamp the city's transportation systems. Nearly $900 million has been allocated to projects designed to ease the movement of millions of residents and visitors. This financial boost includes $709.9 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and additional funds for local transit initiatives set to improve connections between neighborhoods, according to LA, Mayor Karen Bass.

Senator Alex Padilla and Mayor Bass, alongside other local leaders, highlighted the critical funding during an event outside the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, anticipating that these upgrades will live beyond the global sports event. "These investments are going to help transform Los Angeles," Bass said, “I want to thank Senator Padilla for continuing to deliver crucial resources, especially as we prepare to host the World Cup and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games." The Senator also noted the importance of the investment, which aims to mend the disconnect created by previous infrastructure, "For too long, highways and inadequate transportation infrastructure have cut communities across California off from quality educational, healthcare, and job opportunities,” Padilla stated, reflecting on the grand scope of these enhancements.

Other federal funds are earmarked for specific district ventures, with Congressman Jimmy Gomez securing $151 million to build green spaces and reconnect areas previously severed by highways and rails. "This funding will help reshape the future of our city and make it a better, safer, and more accessible place to live and work," he said, in a statement obtained by LA, Mayor Karen Bass. The projects also got an endorsement from L.A. Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins, who lauded the federal support. "The federal funding Metro recently received is a perfect and consequential example of what happens when local, regional, and federal partners work together and advocate together," Wiggins stated.

With the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon, there's no doubt L.A. is pushing to showcase the very best of its region. Exposition Park General Manager Andrea Ambriz looks forward to the world's attention. "Exposition Park is a gem in the heart of Los Angeles, and the eyes of the world will be set on us for a historic third Olympic games," Ambriz shared her vision. Federal funds are fueling optimism, with stakeholders committed to ensuring the 2028 Olympics will be marked as a triumph not solely for sport but for the city's future voyage toward connectedness and mobility.
