Angelenos, brace yourselves for a bout of weather whiplash. The city of Los Angeles is set to experience a sunny Thursday with a comfortable high of 79 degrees. But don't get too cozy with the clear skies; a foggy intermission and possible showers are heading our way, according to the National Weather Service.
As the city beds down tonight, a "Patchy fog after midnight" will roll in, blanketing the region and lowering visibility substantially, the National Weather Service reports. The fog will linger through Friday morning, giving way later to mostly cloudy conditions and a high near 73. And for you night owls, keep an eye out for the 20 percent chance of rain slated to pitter-patter after midnight.
In a more pressing advisory, the National Weather Service warns of dense fog along the coast from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles County, effective immediately. The visibility is predicted to drop to "one quarter mile or less in dense fog," a hazard for motorists plying these routes during the early hours. The advisory stands until 9 AM PDT today, impacting cities including Avalon, Long Beach and downtown Los Angeles, as detailed by the NWS Dense Fog Advisory.
Looking ahead, the weekend forecast suggests the city won't be able to shake the moisture, with a 70 percent chance of rainfall predicted for Saturday and temperatures dipping to a high near 62. The weather twists continue into Sunday; although the day will dawn mostly sunny, there's still a 30 percent chance for showers to crash the parade in the afternoon. By nightfall, the chances for rain diminish before the new week gears up for a return to sunnier days.
