In a recent announcement, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has filed charges against a woman for a series of vehicle vandalism incidents around L.A. and Santa Monica. Lisa Jones. The alleged perpetrator, went on a brick-throwing spree against parked cars, according to the District Attorney's Office report.
Charged with 12 counts of vandalism, Jones stands accused of purposely targeting a dozen vehicles between February 21 and March 29. "The reckless and destructive behavior exhibited by Ms. Jones demonstrates a flagrant disregard for the law and a lack of respect for other peoples’ property," stated Gascón as reported on the official District Attorney's website.
During her arraignment on April 5, Jones pleaded not guilty to the charges which include 11 felony counts and one misdemeanor count. These counts refer to instances where the damage caused amounted to $400 or more. The incidents took place in various locations across Los Angeles and Santa Monica, with the vehicles being parked and unoccupied at the time of the vandalism, the DA's report added.
Jones's bail was recommended to be $600,000, but the court lowered the figure to $120,000. If convicted as charged, she could serve up to nine years and eight months behind bars. The preliminary hearing is set for April 19, and authorities from the Los Angeles and Santa Monica police departments are deeply involved in the investigation.
