Kids in Mankato have just been granted a little extra time to show off their artistic chops and eco-consciousness in one go, with the city's Arbor Day Poster Contest deadline pushed to April 15. In a bid to get more young environmental enthusiasts in the mix, the Mankato officials announced the extension – a chance for the children to have their eco-centric artistry recognized and rewarded with a living, breathing monument.
According to a Facebook post by the City of Mankato, the competition is heating up for students from Kindergarten through fifth grade. The winners, apart from snagging bragging rights, will get something greener – a tree planted in their name in a city park. It's not just about drawing trees, it's about growing them. And for the young folks of Mankato, it's a budding opportunity to blend their artistic vision with their love for Mother Earth.
