MESA, Ariz. – A violent altercation aboard a Mesa school bus has left a community in shock as police released disturbing footage of a mother attacking a substitute bus driver. The incident, which unfolded on April 11 near McKellips Road and Country Club Drive, saw 27-year-old Hermenegilda Isabel Marquez violently confront a 64-year-old school bus driver over an alleged comment made to her child.

According to ABC15, the video released by the Mesa Police Department shows Marquez boarding the bus and questioning the driver. Accusing her of speaking ill of her daughter, Marquez can be heard saying, "You talking s*** to my daughter?" The unforeseen intrusion escalates quickly and seems to unfurl just as students are being dropped off. The substitute driver, repeatedly asserting that she said nothing to the child, can also be seen pleading with Marquez and other adults to disembark the bus, to no avail.

As the situation deteriorates, the surveillance footage captures Marquez angrily gripping the driver's hair and striking her several times. The assault, which occurred in the presence of more than ten children, only ceases when a man, believed to be Marquez's boyfriend, intervenes and pulls her away, as per ABC15. Following the attack, the victim radios in for help, evidently shaken.

Authorities have stated that Marquez was already on unsupervised probation for another assault before this incident. After the attack, she showed "no emotion" when shown the video of her actions, azfamily.com reported.

Now, she faces a felony charge of aggravated assault on a school employee and has been released on a $5,000 bond with conditions preventing her return to the bus stop.

As the investigation continues, the motive behind Marquez's violent outburst remains uncertain. "We don't know if our suspect was mad at this particular driver, or maybe a driver that works that route every day," Detective Richard Encinas of the Mesa Police told ABC15. "Those are things that are going to come out as the investigation continues."
