Sunday night's robbery spree in Minneapolis was cut short thanks to the vigilance of locals and the swift response of law enforcement, with three juveniles now in cuffs facing aggravated robbery charges. These incidents, spread over just one hour, saw the Minneapolis Police Department, aided by the Minnesota State Patrol Helicopter and other agencies, employing their Robbery Pattern Response Protocol to great effect.
It all started at around 6:45 pm when a 911 caller reported a group of seven juveniles trying to jack a car from a lot at the 500 block of W Lake St, the suspects were driving a red Hyundai, a white Kia, and a silver sedan, these suspects then caused ruckus with erratic driving reported near 3400 block of Holmes Ave. Shortly after, they tried another carjacking at the 3400 block of Humboldt Ave S, followed by a hectic chase witnessed on 34th St W, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.
The breaking point came when all three vehicles pulled into a parking lot on the 4400 Block of Lyndale Ave N around 7:38 pm; reports came in of a juvenile brandishing a gun, and officers moved in mere moments after notification. The suspects tried to flee but were met with the tenacity of a K9 unit and the watchful eyes of a State Patrol Helicopter which led the white Kia being chased down to an alley at 35th Ave N and Knox Ave N where the juveniles fled on foot but they couldn't escape the law, ending with three arrests and the recovery of a stolen Kia, as reported by the Minneapolis Police Department.
Minneapolis Police Chief O'Hara, in the aftermath, expressed his gratitude: "I want to express my appreciation to members of the community who were observant and reported suspicious activity to 9-1-1 that enabled us to track these suspects down quickly," and acknowledging the joint efforts, he added, "I want to also thank our law enforcement partners who assisted us in quickly stopping this robbery spree," he highlighted the collective strategy as proof of its efficacy in curbing such reckless crime sprees.
