Mt. Morris Township Grandmother Arrested, Accused of Aiding Granddaughter in School AttackSource: Google Street View

An elderly woman in Mt. Morris Township is behind bars after getting physically involved in her granddaughter's school altercation, officials say. The incident, which took place at McMonagle Elementary School, involved the grandmother allegedly assisting her granddaughter in an attack on another student in a school bathroom, as reported by WNEM. Authorities reported that the woman was initially at the school for a meeting regarding her granddaughter's behavior.

During the visit, the grandmother sighted another girl whom her granddaughter had problems with, and following this, they both pursued the child into a restroom, says Mt. Morris Township Police Chief Michael Veach. It was there, Veach explained, that the grandmother held down the young girl while her granddaughter landed multiple punches, resulting in bruises that were later spotted by teachers, sparking an immediate police response. The grandmother's identity remains undisclosed as she awaits arraignment in Genesee County Jail, however, the incident has raised serious concerns about school security measures.

Responding to the situation, Jamal Bransford, the Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator for Westwood Heights Schools, released a statement emphasizing that the altercation was an isolated event and that steps are being taken to safeguard students further. "The safety and security of our students are topmost concern," Bransford said, according to abc12, also making it clear no other children were involved or injured in the unfortunate incident at McMonagle Elementary School.

The school district in collaboration with the local police is reviewing security protocols, which the grandmother is accused of bypassing to enter the school, to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. School officials mentioned its commitment to student safety and securing its premises as vital ongoing efforts.
